OCEANIC PLASTIC POLLUTION

WHERE'S THE TRASH

Due to the construct of ocean currents there are 5 specific gyres where your trash is likely to find itself.

These current systems have carried so much trash into these gyres that they are now recognized as trash islands or garbage patches.

In some areas the accumulation of trash has become so severe that it is 10 feet thick and can be seen from space...

Along with these gyres you can find plastic pollution in even the most remote islands in the world; some "untouched by man".

WHY YOU SHOULD CARE

This is arguably the biggest environmental problem behind climate change. Oceanic plastic pollution directly contributes to:

  • Human ingestion of plastic chemicals

  • Climate Change

  • Ocean Acidification

  • Marine Death

The Earth is dying and we NEED a change.

GET THE STATS

As the issue grows so does our knowledge of it...

  • The Great Pacific Garbage Patch Alone contains over 8 million metric tons of waste

  • 100 million marine animals die each year from plastic pollution.

  • plastic pollution is killing bacteria that produces oxygen.

  • By 2030 the amount of plastics in the oceans are projected to double.

  • By 2050 there is going to be more plastics in the oceans than fish.

  • Every minute a garbage-truck-worth of trash enters the oceans.

  • There are an estimated 14 trillion pieces of plastic in the oceans.
